What We Offer

Sharpening Services
& Pricing

Every blade is hand-sharpened on a progression of whetstones, then stropped to a polished, razor edge. No machines. No shortcuts.

01

Kitchen Knives

Chef's knives, paring knives, petty knives, and more. Restored to factory sharpness or better.

$12–$15 / knife

7" or under: $12  ·  7"–9": $15  ·  Over 9": quote after personal review. Repair of small chips is included in the sharpening price. Larger chips will incur an additional $5–$10 depending on size — I will contact you before proceeding if extra charges apply.

02

Hunting, EDC, & Pocket Knives

Fixed blades, folding knives, fillet knives, and everyday carry. These blades are finished with a deliberately coarser, toothy edge — ideal for initiating cuts on rope, cordage, and general daily materials where aggressive bite matters more than pure slicing refinement.

$10–$15 / knife

Under 3": $10  ·  3"–6": $12  ·  Over 6": $15+ after personal review

03

Scissors & Shears

Hair shears, kitchen scissors. Clean, precise cutting action restored.

$15–$20 / pair

Kitchen scissors: $15  ·  Hair shears: $20. Due to their technical difficulty, scissors and shears are priced higher than standard blades to reflect the additional care and skill required.

A real person.
Real results.

Hi, I'm Carter — a mechanical engineer by training (Clemson University, B.S. Mechanical Engineering) and a blade sharpening enthusiast by passion. Originally from Chattanooga, TN, I relocated to Roanoke in 2021 and quickly fell in love with the Blue Ridge Valley.

My engineering background gives me a precise, analytical approach to sharpening — understanding steel geometry, bevel angles, and edge mechanics isn't just theory, it directly translates to a better edge on your blade. What started as a personal obsession became a craft I'm proud to offer to my community.

I sharpen every blade myself, by hand, using a carefully selected progression of Japanese and diamond plated whetstones. No belt grinders, no shortcuts — just patience, technique, and an eye for the right edge geometry for each knife.

The Craft

Understanding the Whetstone

Whetstone sharpening is the oldest and most effective method for restoring a blade's edge. Here's what you should know about the process.

120–400 Grit

Coarse — Repair

Used only on heavily damaged or very dull blades. Removes material quickly to re-establish the bevel and fix chips or rolled edges. Most knives don't need this stage.

800–1200 Grit

Medium — Shape

The primary sharpening stage. This is where the edge geometry is set and refined. The correct angle is maintained throughout to match the blade's intended purpose.

2000–4000 Grit

Fine — Refine

Removes the scratch marks left by coarser stones and begins to form a clean, burr-free edge. The blade becomes noticeably sharper at this stage.

6000–12000 Grit

Polish — Finish

The finishing stage creates a mirror-polished, razor-sharp edge. High-grit stones align the steel at a microscopic level, maximizing sharpness and edge retention.

Each knife receives the grit stages it needs — no more, no less. A well-maintained kitchen knife may only need the fine and polish stages, while a neglected blade may need the full progression. The goal is always the sharpest, most durable edge possible.
